Lemongrass and Lowering Cholesterol

From the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Cholesterol is a fatty and waxy deposits found in our body.

Our body do need some amount of cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods.  However, we nowadays tend to over indulge in food and eat way too much cholesterol.

There are two type of cholesterol - LDL (bad) and HDL (good).  The bad LDL will cause buildup in arteries, causing heart disease.  Good HDL carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver removes the cholesterol from your body.

What Is High Blood Cholesterol?

Figure A shows the location of the heart in the body. Figure B shows a normal coronary artery with normal blood flow. The inset image shows a cross-section of a normal coronary artery. Figure C shows a coronary artery narrowed by plaque. The buildup of plaque limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood through the artery. The inset image shows a cross-section of the plaque-narrowed artery.

Figure C shows a coronary artery narrowed by plaque. The buildup of plaque limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood through the artery. The inset image shows a cross-section of the plaque-narrowed artery.
Over time, plaque hardens and narrows your coronary arteries. This limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.
Eventually, an area of plaque can rupture (break open). This causes a blood clot to form on the surface of the plaque. If the clot becomes large enough, it can mostly or completely block blood flow through a coronary artery.
If the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle is reduced or blocked, angina (an-JI-nuh or AN-juh-nuh) or a heart attack may occur.
Angina is chest pain or discomfort. It may feel like pressure or squeezing in your chest. The pain also may occur in your shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back. Angina pain may even feel like indigestion.
A heart attack occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle is cut off. If blood flow isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle begins to die. Without quick treatment, a heart attack can lead to serious problems or death.
Plaque also can build up in other arteries in your body, such as the arteries that bring oxygen-rich blood to your brain and limbs. This can lead to problems such as carotid artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease (P.A.D.).

There has been researches done on using Lemongrass to reduce high cholesterol.  One such research is done by researchers at the University of Wisconsin's Department of Nutritional Sciences in 1989.

They investigated the link between lemongrass and cholesterol. The research team published its findings -- a significant decrease in cholesterol levels in test subjects who took lemongrass oil capsules daily over a three-month period -- in the August 1989 issue of the medical journal "Lipids."

Can one be allergic to Essential Oils?

1. Sensitivities to Essential Oils
by David Stewart, PhD, DNM

There are a couple of ways one can be sensitive to essential oils, but an
allergic reaction is not one of them. Allergies are erroneous immune
responses to proteins, peptides, and amino acids - all nitrogen compounds,
none of which are found in essential oils.

You can have an allergic reaction to a vegetable oil such as olive, corn,
peanut, walnut, almond, etc., since these are cold pressed and can contain
small amounts of proteins. For example, occasionally a person can develop an
allergy to an oil blend such as Valor, which is sold by Young Living. The
allergy is not due to the essential oils of spruce, frankincense, rosewood,
and blue tansy in the blend. It is due to the almond oil in the blend. So
read your labels. What may appear to be an allergic reaction to a blend of
essential oils may be due to a carrier oil contained in the blend.

You can also have an allergic reaction to citrus oils which are cold pressed
from the rind. However, while we refer to citrus oils such as orange, lemon,
lime, and grapefruit as "essential oils," strictly speaking they are not. By
definition, a true essential oil must be steam distilled, not expressed.

There are also oils extracted by solvents such as onycha, jasmine, and
neroli. Strictly speaking, they too are not true essential oils. Technically,
they should be called absolutes, not essential oils. One can have a true
allergic reaction to these because, like the citrus oils, they have not passed
through a distillation process and can contain traces of proteins, peptides, or
amino acids.

Because of the nature of distillation by heat, steam, and water, that true
essential oils must undergo, they do not contain the necessary compounds to
trigger allergies because these compounds do not pass through the distillation
process.

Hence, sensitivities to essential oils, in the sense of allergic reactions,
are not possible. Allergic sensitivities are due to the body developing
antibodies in response to certain nitrogenous molecules. No one has ever
found antibodies in humans from essential oils. So if one has a reaction
to an essential oil, it is something else. Not an allergy.

Mary Cheong

My EO Journey with my family.

When i first used them for my cough, hubby was sceptical and thought i should be taking cough mixture and antibiotics. My personal conviction and the peace of God led me to use YL EOs.

For the 1st 2 weeks of using, hubby refused to sleep in our room cos he said the smell is so yucky. But i persevered. Anyhow i recovered from my persistent cough. Mind you it was not ...easy. Unlike medication that gives you instant relief within a day, i had to use the oils for a almost a week. You see the oils work to bring back balance to my sick body instead of just treating the symptoms.

Next i worked on my teenage and young adult children. My youngest son was the most obliging and he allowed me to "experiment" on him. My daughter was sceptical and not too convinced. My older son only allowed me to use on him because he wants a knows he can get a massage. Now i tell my children when they are not well, go consult a doc and ask him for his diagnosis but don't take the medication. I will then refer to my EO reference book and Onedrop community for oils to use.

Almost 4 months into using the oils, my hubby could not be persuaded. But i got a tip off from a wellness consultant. Do the Rain Drop Therapy on your hubby. 10 out of 10 men will enjoy it and that's how you can get him started.

Aha my chance came, when hubby was down with flu just 2 days ago. I offered to massage him using my oils. Throughout the session, he did not complain about the pungent-ness of the oils. In fact i can tell that he enjoyed it. I did it again on him a few hours later. Hurray, he didn't even take a single fedac ( which he used to )!

Thank You Jesus for leading us back to nature's solution to bring back homeostasis and live the abundant life.

Cheap, painless and natural way of getting rid of skin tags

7 years ago, had lots of skin tag around my eye area after the birth of my first son. Went to a dermatologist, spent $500 plus for a 15 mins laser procedure to laser them off. Painful and scary experience.

In 2013, the skin tags came bac...k after the birth of my second son. Decided to use Young living Frankinscence to remove them. Sucessfully removed two small ones near the top of my cheekbone.

Decided to be more adventurous and go for the one nearer to my eye. After about 3 weeks. It dropped off. When you work with the oils. You have got to believe and be patient. Painless and most important - NATURAL.

Buzz off fever and block nose

Felicia (30 Oct 2013)
Successfully fought fever+blocked nose with Thieves, peppermint, lavender and R.C. And only in 4 hours!
Son (2 yo) developed fever last night. First measurement was 38.3
Quickly layered thieves, lavender and peppermint on soles every 15 minutes for 1 hour. Fever down to 37.9 but stayed there.
...
Decided to layer the oils on spine instead. So alternate spine and sole application with the three oils every 15 minutes. Fever down to 37.5 after about 2 hours.
But son complained of burnt feeling on spine. So I diluted with grapeseed oil. No complains for application on soles.
Two more applications after that (every half hour) and fever was off! 36.8
Son couldn't sleep well due to blocked nose. Applied R.C on my palm and let him inhale. Also applied on chest and back. 2 applications and nose block cleared a little (still can hear mucus noise. But he need not breathe through mouth).
Slept through and no fever till morning Will continue applying oils though less frequent today.

Thank God!

Happy Sunday all

Great Oils

Something much more amazingly was that my son was down with fever and bad runny nose on Fri, so I applied thieves, peppermint, lavender and Rc oil for him so came Sat, totally no more runny nose and fever as well. Great oils!!!

Essential Oils are not miracle drugs cos they are NATURE and seeks to restore balance and harmony to your body

Sharing by fellow oiler - Stephanie

Been asked to share my experience numerous times & the reason I was procrastinating or rather dragging my heels was, I wanted to be sure & not misled others.
It's been almost 6 weeks ago when my journey started. During this period, it was filled with fear & trepidation. But never once did I want to give up cos cliche it may sound, there's always light at the end of all tunnels. Darkness is just temporal.
Most importantly I started with right frame of mind & steadfast faith that God will carry me thro.

May 2013 was the initial usage of YLEOs for me.
I started with EOs for my migraine & sinusitis. It worked n hence my progression to more EOs for my allergies & the haze that came on fast & furious in June-July.

All was well. No more migraines. Sinusitis under controlled even tho the haze was real bad.
All these time, I was on lemon EO water 1-2L/day.

Came Aug. My test of faith began.
I was already allergic to MSG & unfresh crustacean. Occasional outbreaks esp middle of the night is not unusual. Purification & Lavender applied neat will keep the hives well behaved.

But it was nightmarish in Mid Aug. All hell broke loose cos I was having hives every night. Yes! EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!! It would always start late night. With hives like pebbles transformed to hard rocks in size. Affected areas were the whole back of my thighs. Esp worse behind the knees n elbows. Inner crevices of near anus region as well as near pee area. Some along various parts of my upper limbs.
Can u imagine the torture n sleepless nights? Purification, Peppermint & Lavender were of no use against these outbreaks. Despite NXR n lemon water intake increased, it was futile.
Truthfully, I resorted to 4x intake of antihistamine during these 6 weeks of nightmare. It was Piriton. Cos I needed to sleep to function, I cheated. Amazingly it worked v well

(as I was on it for a v long time, it was useless on my allergies cos body was too used to it. Since starting on YLEOs, I stopped all oral meds fr the doc. The body is cleansed by EOs fr years of meds ingesting thus working at its best now)

Anyway, by now all of u would have known I was going thro a detox. My liver couldn't take it fr my years of abuse, decided to stop functioning at its best. Thus the skin now bear brunt of it.
Despite stopping (almost) sugar, dairy n caffeine it didn't help or show signs of slowing down or getting better....

Into Sept
Good friend Yanni suggested lavender in caps. 10drops every 30-60mins. Offered her Sulfurzyme to me till I was able to get mine. I was on 3 caps 3x daily.
Even ks, I put myself on Lemon, Peppermint & Lavender 3 drops each in cap 3x daily to stop the itch.
Purchased JuvaCleanse - applied neat 2 drops 2x/day & ingested 10drops in cap 3x daily.
Alkalime 1 teaspoon to 200mls water 3x daily.
I was still itching, worse in fact. Cos now in the day, it was just as bad as night.

Mid Sep
Attended Cherie's talk on skin.
Realized Copaiba aids in relieving itch too. Started on that.
It works!!!! I was amazed n so grateful & thankful.
Itch persisted but less angry n i was able to sleep a little better.
Animal Scents Ointment- applied on soles as well as layered upon other EOs applied area.

Now
Itch-less for a week! Thank God!!!
It just suddenly went away tho I was expecting it to rain upon me...daily. Ha! I m relieved & glad. It didn't.
Past 2 days, there were some "insect lookalike bites" but after application of Purification or Copaiba, it subsided after a few mins.

My review
Please be honest with yourselves. Re the cutting off of poisons in our lives. It's not nec just dairy, sugar or caffeine. It can be some negative emotions or stresses we are going thro.
All good offers of help & advice can n will b given. But futile if we do not heed them or lie about our cutting back on the poisons.

The journey is def not easy. Faith & believe are the only thing that kept me grounded & perservered on.
And all the great & wonderfully positive experiences I read fr ONE DROP, YLOILERS & other YL related FB pages. Thank you very much!

No one is or can be responsible for our health & well being.
Do not give up or start comparing why my detox is diff fr so & so. Why others had it easy & mine is so tumultuous.
We r all diff beings. Eat differently. Different personality.
Thus none will go through the same experience. Similar, yes.
Remember to keep in check your emotional well being too. When it's imbalanced, it will create havoc to both health & well being

My maintenance
JuvaCleanse- 2drops applied on liver area 2x/day
Lemon EO water 3-4L /day.
Sulfurzyme 3caps 2x/day
Alkalime 1teaspoon in 200mls water 3x /day
N whatever other EOs I was on previously for well being, I continued.

I am no expert. This is my journey & I am glad I am taking my leap of faith to better health without meds

What is essential oil

An essential oil is that aromatic, volatile liquid that is within many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds and that is usually extracted through steam distillation.

The chemistry of an essential oil is very complex and may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds. Moreover, essential oils are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs because of the distillation process that makes them so concentrated. It requires a large volume of plant material to produce small amounts of a distilled essential oil. For example, it takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to produce 1 kilo of rose oil.

Essential oils are also diferent from vegetable oils such as corn oil, peanut oil, and olive oil. Vegetable oils are greasy and may clog the pores. They also oxidize and become rancid over time and have no antibacterial properties. Most essential oils, on the other hand, do not go rancid and are powerful antimicrobials. Essential oils that are high in plant waxes, such as patchouli, vetiver, and sandalwood, if not distilled properly, could go rancid after time, particularly if exposed to heat for extended periods of time.

Essential oils are not simple substances. Each oil is a complex structure of hundreds of diferent chemicals. A single essential oil may contain anywhere from 80 to 300 or more diferent chemical constituents. An essential oil like lavender is very complex with many of its constituents occurring in minute quantities-but all contributing to the oil's therapeutic efects to some degree. To understand these constituents and their functions requires years of study.

Additionally, essential oils can be distilled or extracted in diferent ways that will have dramatic efects on their chemistry and medicinal action. Oils derived from a second or third distillation of the same plant material are usually not as potent as oils extracted during the frst distillation. Yet with certain oils, there may be additional chemical constituents that are released only in the second or third distillation.

How Essential Oils Work

Essential oils are volatile liquids and aromatic compounds found within shrubs, fowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds that are usually extracted through steam distillation.

The moment we inhale the oils, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane, known as the olfactory epithelium.  This lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain.

Because the limbic system is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance, therapeutic-grade essential oils can have profound physiological and psychological effects. The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, our emotional control center.

How many ways can essential oils afect your daily life? An Austrian study reported that inhaling the odors of orange and lavender essential oils in a dental office reduced anxiety and improved mood. Applying the essential oils of bergamot, lavender, and frankincense in sweet almond carrier oil in hand massage was found to have a positive effect on pain and depression in hospice patients with terminal cancer. And fnally, patients in a Taiwan hospital with symptoms of irritable bowel disease improved signifcantly after ingesting enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules compared to those who received a placebo.

About Young Living Essential Oil
Dr Gary Young (Founder of Young Living) established the term “therapeutic-grade,” now known as Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG), as a guarantee that Young Living will only sell 100% pure, natural, uncut oils that maintain the vital therapeutic potency.

As Gary traveled the world studying the distillation of pure essential oils, he saw wide discrepancies in quality and learned that in order to ensure purity and potency, expert, rigorous analysis of finished oils was critical.

Today, using gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS) analysis, the phytochemical profile of every batch of Young Living essential oils is measured to evaluate each specific plant compound. Certain plant compounds must meet or exceed specific levels to ensure the oil is natural, pure, and therapeutic-grade. Only then does Young Living guarantee the oil will provide the desired results and label it Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG). Only therapeutic grade EO can be ingested and alleviate symptoms and illness.

Brief History of essential oils

For thousands of years, essential oils have been used by mankind for many purposes.  The Egyptians were one of the earliest known cultures to use essential oils.  The oils were used for several reasons in everyday life for these people; they were used for religious as well as for cosmetic and medicinal purposes.  Similarly in China, there were also records of the usage of these plant extracts for medicinal and aesthetics purposes.

These plant extracts were known as ‘essential oils’ only in the early 20th century by Rene Maurice Gattefosse.  He was interested in the medicinal value of these plant extracts.  The usage of these essential oils for aromatic, therapeutic and cosmetics benefits continued to gain popularity over the years.

What Makes An Essential Oil Therapeutic Grade?

By Melodie Kantner

Most people read the label on essential oils bottles and see the words "100% PURE" and think that is a therapeutic grade oil. There is so much more involved in producing truly therapeutic grade oils. The key to producing a therapeutic grade essential oil is to preserve as many of the delicate aromatic compounds within the essential oil as possible. Most of these elements are very fragile and are destroyed by high temperature and high pressure.  Nutritionists tell us not to boil our vegetables because the hot water removes the vitamins and nutrients. Similarly, "boiling" plants to extract their essence destroys many of a plant's fragile constituents, which gives essential oils their therapeutic properties. So keeping the distiller's temperature low is a must.  Distillation can determine the value of the oil, or destroy the value of the oil. Essential oil distilling is not just a job, but an art. The operator of the distiller must have a full understanding of the value of oils in order to produce quality oils. If the pressure is too high, or the temperature is too high, it may change the molecular structure of the fragrance molecule, altering the chemical constituents.  Essential oils MUST be distilled for the proper length of time to release all their active constituents.  A distiller who is only interested in profit will distill oils for 15 minutes at very high temperature & very high pressure. This way they can produce more oil and thus more profits.  For example, cypress must be distilled for 24 hours to release all the chemical constituents. Most distilling operations, throughout the world, only distill cypress one hour and 15 minutes.  Similarly, lavender does not produce all its therapeutically effective substances unless it is distilled for one hour and 30 minutes; but most lavender is distilled for only 15 minutes! Three-quarters of the volume is extracted during the first quarter of the distillation process. Many producers end the process there because the increased time does not significantly increase the volume. Time is "only" a crucial factor to extracting the plant's therapeutic properties. Lavender should be distilled at no more than 3 pounds of pressure, a temperature of no higher than 245 degrees, and should be distilled for 2 hours.  Another trick some distillers will do to produce more oil, is to redistill the plant material over and over as many as 5 or 6 times. It's like using a tea bag over & over again. When the plant material is redistilled, all the batches after the first distillation are no longer therapeutic grade. The oil distiller will then save the first batch to be sold as therapeutic grade oils. Then the rest of the distillations are sold to the unsuspecting public as so called "pure" oils.  There are many other factors that effect the quality of the oil. A few examples:
How long did the plant material sit around before it was distilled? Is the distiller made of chemically reactive metals or was it stainless steel? Was the soil fertilized with chemical fertilizers or organic fertilizers? Were any chemicals added to the distillation water?
Note: Many distillers add chemicals to the water as they are distilling to produce greater volume in the distillation process. They can say they don't use adulterants in the oil since they only used it in the water. The chemical still gets into the oil and it is stretching the truth to say an oil distilled this way is pure. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the origins, extraction process, and quality of any essential oil you purchase. Insist on essential oils extracted from organically grown plants, with no chemicals in the extraction process, at the proper temperature and pressure, for the appropriate length of time. If we remain ignorant and continue to emphasize price instead of quality, essential oils will indeed be nothing more than a charming novelty item.
Sharing something wonderful that had happen:

18/7
Son came down with a cough which we thought was a normal flu package.
20/7

PD examined and heard wheezing. Put him on neubiliser and prescribed whole bag worth of medicine. Dr's fee : $371.40. Started him on medicine but wheezing continued.
21/7, 9.30pm
First application of Young Living's V6, Dorado azul, RC and Thieves. Monitored hourly and Sounds of wheezing continued.

22/7,1.30am-MIRACULOUSLY the wheezing sound disappeared. Second application of oils and no more wheezing experienced.

24/7
Son went to school and mum did not know how to apply the oils as we were away at work.  No choice, mum fed him with the dr's medicine 3x a day.  When i came back after work, listened to his chest and heard wheezing sound.  Immediately oiled him and listened to his chest 30 mins later, wheezing sound disappeared.  (This confirmed that the oils and not the medicines were working.

25/7 and for the next 10 days, we oiled him twice a day and now (a month later), we oiled once a day just for maintance.
